Installation and Storage for Universal Joint

During transportation, it must keep horizontally. In case it cannot keep horizontal but make stand up, it should be protected by shock absorbing device to prevent from dismantlement of spline area due to vibration or tilting, and breakage of bearing case by shock.

When installation, contact face of yoke flange and fitting flange should be clean and must not to have any stabbed or projected area on the faces. Contacting area and face to be fastened by bolt should be closely adhered and check by dial gauge, rotating the area and face, within tolerance 3/100mm for high speed rotation. This is a very important work as it depends on lifetime and vibration balancing. Rust on contact face should be removed by nitride thinner.

When fasten setting bolt after mounting flange, it should be locked by a torque wrench to meet tightening torque.

It is not allowed for compete universal joint to deform or disassemble. But in case of unavoidable disassembling, check if matching arrow mark for spline side and cross direction are matched, and next do following work.

Before rotating, lubricate enough oil to spline and cross. When lubricating, check again if cross area and cap bolt area are matched.

When storage, do not suspend protecting device for spline and make not to be shocked by other things. Use exclusive block for universal joint when stored.

When disassembly for check for cross kit, first unfasten snap ring for Yoke type and cap bolt for Flange and Block type, and do next step. Especially, when disassembling bolt of Flange type, keep in mind marking numbers marked on kit cover and yoke, and reassemble with same number for them.
